Mixed asphalt pavement is a mixture of stone, sand or gravel mixed with asphalt concrete aggregate. The asphalt cement is mixed at high temperatures and then laid on a layer to form the pavement structure. Mainly used for roads, highways, because it is highly durable, so it can handle a lot of traffic. There are three types of asphalt paving mixes: dense graded mixes, stone-based asphalt and open graded mixes.
Dense-Graded Mixes
Intensive graded mixes are the most common road hot mixes because they are the most permeable and resistant to destructive. They may be finer or coarse, depending on the type of aggregates used. The concentrated mixture can be used for all purposes and is suitable for all construction, friction, leveling and repair operations.
Stone Matrix Asphalt
Stone matrix asphalt has a deliberately implemented gap therein to prevent rutting and to withstand durability. Although it is usually more expensive than its dense level counterpart, it is because it requires more powerful and more durable materials to be kept together. However, in some cases, stone-based asphalt is actually more cost-effective in the long run because it does not require frequent replacement and is therefore one of the more affordable asphalt paving mixes.
