The rate of physical hardening decreases rapidly with isothermal age and it is highly dependent on conditioning temperature and the source of the base binder by Crack Sealing Machine pouring. Different types of polymer modification did not significantly change the rate of physical hardening. This was explained as being the result of the two-phase nature of polymer modified binders, in which the hardening behavior of the base binder phase is dominant and also can be used by Crack Sealing Machine.
The rate of physical hardening does not increase indefinitely as temperature decreases. Based on literature review and the experimental data collected, it is hypothesized that the rate of hardening peaks at a specific temperature, and approaches zero as the temperature increases or decrease toward the limits of the glass transition region. It was shown that the peak temperature corresponds to the glass transition temperature of the binder.
